It was almost exactly a year ago when Drexel University professor George Ciccariello-Maher famously tweeted: "all I want for Christmas is white genocide". It wasn't exactly surprising that he would end up on several news outlets debating his position, or that he was willing to argue that he had a good point but wasn't being racist. What was surprising to many, though, was that there were no repercussions. Drexel University did make a public statement on the matter saying that his opinions didn't reflect the body of the college, but it was A-OK with him publicly calling for the death of white people.
It's now a year later and not much has changed in the political/social climate; you can still expect to hear things like this every week and we're supposed to pretend it's all normal. However, as of this week George will no longer be working at Drexel University.
In a lengthy wall of text on Twitter, George announced his resignation from his comfy professor job, as follows:
After December 31st, 2017, I will no longer work at Drexel University. pic.twitter.com/bAM37dbv1q

George states that he's dealt with "a year of harassment by right-wing, white supremacist media outlets and internet mobs", to a point where it "has become detrimental to my own writing, speaking, and organizing".
For reference, below is footage of George on Tucker Carlson Tonight where he defends his position:
George loves to post on Twitter, as seen in the following tweets courtesy of Know Your Meme:
And here's another one:
Some guy gave up his first class seat for a uniformed soldier. People are thanking him. I'm trying not to vomit or yell about Mosul.

Totally normal, am I right?
